Australasian Diabetes Congress 2024 - Call for ADEA symposia and masterclasses

Call for ADEA symposia and masterclasses

Call for ADEA symposia and masterclasses opens 1st December 2023

Presentation Formats

The ADC offers two presentation categories – Symposia and Masterclasses. During the symposia submission process, you will be asked to select your preferred category. Please see the descriptions below when selecting the most appropriate choice.

Symposia: A symposia should include 2-3 presenters (3 presenters max), each presenting different aspects of a topic that is logically developed and thought-provoking. It may provide new information, application of evidence or an opportunity to generate discussion. Symposia should be appropriate for audiences of 100+ delegates and will be held in large meeting rooms, with chairs arranged in rows (lecture-theatre-style).

Masterclass: A masterclass should be presented by 1-2 expert(s) (3 presenters max) in a particular field and is focused on exploring a particular clinical area and is able to demonstrate applicability of research or theory to practice and present new ideas. It should allow sufficient time for audience questions and/or provide some hands-on or group practicum. Masterclasses should be appropriate for audiences of 50-100 delegates and will be held in large meeting rooms, with chairs arranged in rows (lecture-theatre-style).

Some key topics of interest for ADC24 include:

  • The impact of sleep on diabetes management
  • Diabetes management in the transgender population
  • Diabetes management in multiple birth pregnancies
  • Sustainable lifestyle behaviour changes for diabetes

Presentation Length

All sessions, regardless of the category, are 1.5 hours in length. This includes your session opening/speaker introductions and your session closing/question time. Please keep this timeframe in mind when planning your session.

Session Chair

You are welcome to chair your own session or nominate your own chair(s) (2 max) for your session who are likely to be familiar with your topic and be able to ask insightful questions and moderate audience questions. You will be asked to include contact details for your session chair(s) as part of your abstract submission. Training for session chairs will be available closer to the date.

Important - Creating your submission

ADEA encourages everyone referring to and about people with diabetes to be mindful of the power of language. When writing your abstract and preparing your presentation, please refer to the Diabetes Australia Language Position Statement.

Your submission should provide delegates with an overview of your proposed session. A template is available to download here and will guide you to provide the following sections as part of your submission.

Formatting: Please ensure sentence case is used in your title and throughout and your spelling is correct. Submissions should be typed into this template and saved on your computer for later reference. The filename of the Word document should be named as the first five words of your title. It should contain alpha/numeric characters only. It should be typed in Arial font, size 11pt.

Title (max. 10 words): The title should be as brief as possible and clearly indicate the nature of the session. If you wish to include a subtitle, it must be included in this field and included in the 10-word limit.

Presenters: Please provide details of all proposed presenters including their name, email address, ADS or ADEA member number (if applicable) and their residential state.

Session Chair: Please provide details of the nominated session chair(s), including their name and email address.
